Nose To Nose

Nose to nose, here we lay
Your body against mine

With darkness all around us
I make a deal with time.

Give me one more moment
To stop and soak you in.

Knowing time, it’s fleeting
For see, that’s just the thing –

This time I have, it’s borrowed
It was never mine to keep

My lips, they move to your nose
To kiss you as I weep.

Tiny little button
How long until you grow

I wondered this but yesterday
I guess now that I know

That day by day I watch it
This growth of yours, you see

But only in these moments
Of quiet, you and me

Do I hear the kind reminder
Of times most silent whispers

Telling me to take it in
And with that I kiss you.

I let my mother heart have
These moments in the dark

The memorizing of the you
In this borrowed, little part.

I thank sweet time for giving me
The chance to see it all

The day by day, the growing up
But, for, most of all

These moments here within the dark
Where time, it seems, stands still

And it asks me just to soak you in –
I promise, darling, I will.
